This RIBA competition sought concepts for a new visitor centre at Great Fen in Cambridgeshire. Set in the midst of a dramatic fenland landscape, our proposal placed a beacon at the heart of existing and proposed series of wetlands. The structure would be seen from a distance but would merge into the landscape at close quaters – set between an existing woodland and a shallow water body. Smaller scale landscape interventions would utilise similar materials and style, reflecting agricultural architecture of the locality.
