Lead consultants Greysmith Associates led a team of consultants to assess the potential capacity for an urban extension to the south of Mansfield.

One of the key elements was to analyse the potential impact of housing on adjacent ecologically sensitive sites. A thorough and transparent process revealed that the site could in fact be suitable for new housing subject to implementation of a series of green infrastructure components. As such the site can now only be ‘masterplanned’ if green infrastructure is considered from the outset, prior to the design of a housing or road layout. This would put sustainable drainage at the core of the design layout and would incorporate many features that reflect the character of the site and dictate the future sense of place.
